Best cooler I’ve found for my MacBook Pro 15″

You name it, Zalman, Belkin, Antec, Notepal Infinite, I’ve almost tried them all, some even triple the price. The U2 is by far better. Its light weight, simple design, and super super quiet. What I like most is the movable / positionable fans allowing you pin point where the hot spots are which is unique to different brands/model of laptops. In most cases, I don’t even turn on the fan. The vented holes allow good air circulation. My 15″ MBP typically stays below 50C and it fits on top of it perfectly. The large rubber pads keep itself from sliding. For the price you can’t find a better gig than this – at least I haven’t. I give it a 5-stars.

Quiet, sturdy, really cools where it’s needed

This cooler is pretty amazing. I repositioned the two fans right over my laptop hard drive and CPU where my laptop is the hottest and they actually keep them pretty cool. All other laptop fans that I have seen have a central fan, leaving the right side of my laptop where my hard drive is really hot. My hard drive died recently and I think the overheating (I use my laptop over 8h/day) was a major factor. Now, instead of it being about 53 degrees Celsius (127 F) without a fan, it stays around 36 degrees Celsius (97 F)! Much better.

I like that it also raises the back of my laptop. The only problem I have is that you can’t use it to store and carry your laptop as intended unless you remove the two fans, at least with my laptop. Much thinner ones may fare better. I just don’t have the time to remove the fans, rearrange everything to put the laptop into the slot, and then put them into my backpack in such a way that the disconnected fans aren’t damaged every time I need to move my laptop. Reassembling from there is also a pain. So I don’t use that extra “protection and storage” feature and just keep the fans attached and my laptop on top of the frame, even in my backpack.

Aside from that, this laptop fan works great. I can barely hear it, it is made of sturdy material and doesn’t slide, it fits great (about the same size as my 15.4″ laptop), and the underside of my laptop feels only slightly warm after being on all day with the fan beneath it. Even without connecting the fans, it does a decent job cooling. I definitely recommend it.

It’s fantastic!

I love it’s styling and design, I am very happy with it. I especially like that its made of lightweight aluminum, and the fact that you can place the fans where its need most, is what convinced me to buy it. When you place your notebook on it, it gives it the perfect angle to work on and the rubber corners keep your computer from slipping and it also doubles as a carrier to help prevent any scratches on your notebook. The cooling? It does quite well, it lowers my computers’ temp on average of 8 degrees. I added the Thermaltake Mobile Fan 12 External USB Cooling Fan 12CM AF0007 and the combination works far better than I could ever have hoped for. I would have preferred that the fans had a little more “umpf” (more air flow) or the option to purchase additional fans like the ones that come with the Notepal U2. The bottom line is that the Notepal U2 is the best cooler I have used, mixed with the aluminum construction, design, and PRICE, you can’t go wrong.

The perfect tool for woodworking use.

Need a brad nailer for your workshop? Look no further, this little tool is great. The compressor is small, lightwieght and (relatively)quiet. The nailer is also light but neverthless feels substantial and well built. And the gun uses so little air the compressor hardly ever needs to run. I use it for woodworking and projects around the home. Enough power for hard woods, and it does not mar the finish. I considered spending more for a DeWalt or Porter-Cable set up, but for my needs I’m glad I bought this package. It’s easy to carry the entire set in one hand (very convenient). I’ll never need to go beyond the 2 1/2 inch max. capacity. So ask yourself what you really need. If your not doing framing, work alone, and want a quality finished product, buy this set. The only drawbacks are (i) the instruction manual with little actual instruction and (ii) the 3 week delivery time. Hopefully supplies will increase over time.

My new favorite tool!

My wife purchased this combo package for me for my birthday this year (well, more like I bought it and thanked her for it). I have to say, I am impressed.

THE BRAD NAILER:
The gun is lightweight and small enough to get into tight spots, yet it appears to be very well built. The protective no-mar pad does not scratch prefinished moulding, and the side load magazine is convenient and easy to use. I shot about 200 2″ brads while installing new 1/2″ baseboards and 3/4″ birch door trim in my bedroom. Every brad was countersunk to perfect depth, and I did not get a single jam. I ended up with very professional results and finished in 1/2 the time it would have taken me with the old hammer and finish nails.

THE COMPRESSOR:
The PC1010 will change the industry. For homeowners, hobby woodworkers, and customer service professionals in the cabinetry industry this is the perfect compressor. There is no need to lug around a 4 or 6 gallon compressor for a little brad nailer. You can easily carry the nailer, hose, and bread box sized compressor in one hand. From startup, this quiet, lightweight little workhorse takes about 2 minutes to pump up to 110 psi. I consistently got 10 shots before kick in, then another 40 seconds or so to recover. I nailed right through the recovery time, and never had to wait for the compressor to before driving any brads.

SHORTFALLS:
It is very difficult for me to find anything that I don’t like about this one. However, rumor has it that Senco guns work best with Senco brads, and the local home improvement stores sell mostly PC and Bostich… so I will need to find another source. I would not recommend the PC1010 for anyone who wants to drive anything larger than 18ga brads, or run multiple air tools from a single compressor. Also – the compressor is so new that Senco has very limited literature on it, but I would be willing to bet they will get this taken care of soon.

CUSTOMER SERVICE:
Some of the best customer service I have had the pleasure to work with. If you purchased from an authorized dealer, and you have any problems with your equipment, I recommend calling Senco directly.

compressor try’s hard but comes up a bit short

I agree with the other reviewers who have given praise to this product. I felt the same way till mine broke after less than a months use.
Of course it was the compressor which broke, the part with the 90 day warranty. I did not catch that when I bought this.
Senco is a good company, but I think this little compressor is not quite up to the quality of their other products.
In my case it was the 1/4″ copper tubing which brings the air to the tank that failed. It split where the tubing had been bent.
I have fixed it with some liquid steel, since I’m on a job with it, I’m hoping the repair lasts till I have time to replace to tubing.
I have used this to build two large bookcase and cabinet projects so far, and in doing so I have learned the compressors limitations. It does not do well
shooting two inch nails into MDF. It does not have the power to fully sink the nail into the material. I bought this combo for the light weight
of the compressor, so I guess there must be some compromises. This won’t take the place of more powerful compressors,
but it is great for carrying to and from a job. I just hope I do not have problems with it in the future. I’m not sure I would
recommend this product, the 90 day warranty on the compressor is a big negative. especially since it seems to have some problems.

review staples

The staples rate 5 stars. Amazon shipping gets none. I ordered 5 different sizes of these staples. Each one was shipped separately. After opening each box I had to find coffee cans for the staples. The boxes were are ripped up and the staples were all loose in the shipping boxes. One strap of duct tape around the ends would have saved the whole problem.

very poor shipments

first of all i want to say that the staples are great they more than exceed the job i need them to do,however the shipping is the poorest i have ever seen and not because of the quality or quanity.
in the beginning i ordered a box of 5000 1 1/2 staples through amazon i recieved them and used them and because i was happy with my purchase i ordered another box of 5000 which never made it to my house because it was destroyed during shipment so i waited till my credit card was credited and even still contemplating on reordering but i did because i really did like the quality of the staple and as i ordered i decided to order 10,000 instead of 5,000 well guess what,i got the shipment 2 days late they were left at the post office in a totally open box as the original were destroyed and the staples looked like they were shoveled up and dumped in a flower box with handles on the ends and most of the staples looked like they were walked on as the legs of the staples were touching making them unuseable!!!!!!!i don,t think i,ll do this again and its too bad i use alot of staples but i don,t have the time to go back and forth.

Great for my uses. Wish I had gotten it years ago

I have been performing maintenance on the family cars since my dad died when I was fifteen. That makes over a quarter century of brakes jobs and tire rotations, removing and tightening lugs with a T wrench. A couple weeks ago, I bought a compressor; mainly to keep the tires inflated, but I couldn’t resist sizing it at least marginally enough to run an impact wrench. Then I couldn’t resist going ahead and getting the wrench. I worked a little overtime, made my order, and my Ingersoll-Rand 2130 was on the table when I got home from work this evening. I immediately went out to perform an overdue rotation on the Silverado. Those who’ve used impact wrenches regularly will laugh, but I was downright dumbfounded when the wrench tapped the lug nut a few times and spun the nut off in a fraction of a second. And the wrench hardly attempts to turn in your hand. Had I known an impact wrench would make life this easy, I would have invested in the wrench and compressor years ago.

I did some research before purchasing, reading a lot of reviews and comparing specs. I pretty much decided one was wasting his money going below about the $110 point. The other contender that would minimally meet my needs at the lowest price was the Ingersoll-Rand 231C 1/2-Inch Super Duty Air Impact Wrench. I’m sure I would have been happy with that, but moving up the 2130 seemed to be good value. For about $30 more you got a little more forward torque (500 ft-lbs. vs 350), a little more speed (9500 RPM vs 8000), about 2/3 the weight (~4 lbs. vs. 6) at very little additional air use (4.4 SCFM vs 4.2, however they measure that).

I was a bit concerned about my compressor being up to the wrench. It’s a Sears Craftsman 20 gallon, 1.5 HP, 150 max. PSI rated at 3.8 SCFM at 90 PSI (however THEY measure that). A lot of experts would say it’s not enough. Sears said it was fine for 1/2″ impact wrenches and only appropriate for intermittent use with a 3/4″ wrench. I did some math and took the risk. For performing a tire rotation, the compressor was every bit up to the task. I really can’t imagine any job in which the wrench would be used so continuously to really tax the compressor. If you’re a shade tree mechanic, this compressor had no problem with the wrench. In fact, I had almost completed the rotation when I realized that I had turned off the compressor earlier when my three-year-old came outside and was terrified by the compressor. I had done the job with only stored air, it was still holding 90 PSI, and I had noticed no reduction in the performance of the wrench.

I did not find any photos of the 2130 on the web that showed the rear the wrench. (I intend to post a photo or two in a the next few days) The red button in the side photo pushes left and right, choosing forward and backward. There is a five position toggle (at least on mine – the manual says it’s three) in the rear to choose the maximum power. The switch is labelled from 1 at the lowest setting to 2 at the highest setting. Go figure. Power is also continuously variably controlled with the trigger, and I have to say that it is a fabulous trigger with fantastic control of speed. I’ve never used a power tool with fine control like that. I was also amazed at how quiet it was. It certainly makes little noise when it’s not hammering, and when it is, I don’t believe the 100 dBa plus listed in the specs (on the verge of pain.) I also ordered the Ingersoll Rand SK4M14 1/2-Inch Drive 14-Piece Metric Standard Impact Socket Set. This appears to be a great value as well.

Time will tell how it holds up, but with my use, I expect it last a long time before requiring a rebuild. I can’t speak for professional mechanics, but if you’re a do-it-yourself mechanic, I don’t believe you will go wrong with this wrench.

Oh yeah…while you’re waiting for your new toy to come, get a bottle of air tool oil. None is included.

IR2130 impact wrench

Tool is awesome. Not much you can say about an impact wrench as they do not do a lot but when you want it to do what it does it does it perfectly. Powerful, solid, compact and very lightweight as far as impact wrenches go. I have had impact wrenches before that the sockets fall off too easily but this one holds them real snug and has about as many features on it as you can fit on an impact wrench. There are many way more expensive wrenches out there but this one will stand tall next to all of them in the same performance class. Get it now.

Great Tool, don’t know how I got along without one.

I put this tool to good use right away to remove a 1 and 1/4 inch nut which was holding on the rear axle yoke on my 88 Chevy Pickup. I had tried to break it loose previously with a half inch breaker bar and couldn’t budge it. I’ve never used an impact wrench before so I didn’t know exactly what to expect, so I set my compressor at 85psi (manual says 90psi is max.) put the socket over the nut and pulled the trigger. About 5 seconds later the nut was off. I couldn’t believe how easy it was. Putting the new yoke on was a bit tricky as you have to be careful not to damage the crush washer. I set the tool on the lowest setting and it was very easy to control with the trigger; I got it on with no problem. Next I needed to replace a brake caliper so I used it to pull off the front tire which was just plain fun. I’m just a shade tree mechanic but have found lots of uses for this tool. It’s very useful and I couldn’t have done some of the jobs I’ve done without it. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you decide to purchase it. I also purchased the Ingersoll Rand SK4H13L 1/2-Inch Drive 13-Piece SAE Deep Impact Socket Set to go with it as I was told that regular sockets would not hold up. These are great sockets, very hefty with easy to read markings (great for those with over 40 eyes).

CRKT

I just wanted to address an issue regarding the authenticity of the CRKT M16 and M21 Special Forces knives with the G10 handles. I read some reviews that stated they were concerned that the knives they received were counterfeit. I also wandered if the ones that I had ordered were counterfeit. I have owned a CRKT M16-13 Special Forces with aluminum handles for about 5 years. When I purchased it I received 2 clips and extra screws inside the box. When I received my M21-14 SFG and my M16-14 SFG neither one came with extra pocket clips. I contacted CRKT via their web site to find out if I had received counterfeits. I was contacted by Christina Gonzalez who informed me that the CRKT models that have the G10 handles do not come with a second pocket clip. She stated the reason for that is the aluminum handled models require a second clip to attach to the left side of the knife. If you look at them they are mirror images of each other.
Mrs. Gonzalez informed me that Amazon is a direct dealer and they have had no problems with counterfeit knives through Amazon.
I am very pleased with the knives that I received and the fit and finish could not be better.

questionable serration

I purchased this product for a family member and he was thrilled to receive it. Amazon posted it for a great price online and CRKT is a quality brand of knife. I’m not very familiar with the Veff Serration but its agressive style appealed to me. After two days of light use the serration began to show chipping which resulted in me having to return the product. We researched the issue and there are several other accounts of customers having the same problem. I have no doubt that this is a well crafted knife but I don’t recommend the Veff Serration if you plan to make use this knife.

One heck of an all arounder

I have tested this knife for a month or so now, and it has come out strong.
The blade is nice and thick, AUS-8 steel is awesome and holds an adge for a long time (I havent sharpened it yet, because I dont need to! Like a razor still!).
The dual flippers function as a hilt so you dont have to worry about you hand slipping up on the blade (you know, if something has to be done).
It is a well balanced knife. You rest the center of the knife on your finger and it balances surprisingly well.
Of course it has that G-10 handle that I found to be adaquatly grippy, and you can also strike matches on it (usefull sometimes)!
This CRKT M-16 is a pretty big knife too. When I bought it I was wrorried that it may not fit in my pocket. It does (thankfully) fit in my pocket just fine though. You will have to be carefull when and where you whip it out. This thing is big enough to scare your tipical left winger into calling the police.
I carry this knife for rugged use (defense, chopping, cutting heavy material), then I carry my Kershaw Blur (highly recomended) in the case I need it when left wingers are around (wouldnt want to scare them!).
I find the tanto pointed blade handy whenever I need to do more delicate work. It is like having a mini razor on the end of the blade! Verry usefull (for me at least).
Alot of people will be wondering about the locking mechanism on this knife, and all I have to say is: its impressive. The lock has never shown any inclanation of failing, even when put under great stress (you know, like stabbing full force into a sheet of plywood, which it puched through without bending the blade or the lock).

Now thats the good. The only bad thing about this knife is the serrations. As you may have read in other reveiws, the Veff serations chip when put under hard use. I was trying to saw through a cedar branch when mine first started chipping. The good thing though, is that they only chip to a certain degree. The tips of the serations on my CRKT M-16 have almost completely chipped off, but it still saws through branches just as easily as it did before! Hows that for a rugged knife!

So if you are looking for a BAD looking knife to show off to your friends, or maybe just a heavy duty folder to act as a pocket survival knife, look no further. The only thing I wouldnt do with this knife is sell it.
